Beets Beets:Is best known as the red beet that is common called the garden beet. The beet is a root vegetable grown under the soil. The sugar beet is used to make table sugar as an alternative to cane sugar. It is a perennial plant. The plant grows about 3 feet tall and has heart shaped leaves with 5 petals.

In Roman times the beet juice was thought of to be an aphrodisiac, cure for fevers and constipation. Currently the beet is used for lowering blood pressure.
