Lime: Oblong/oval green fruit with porous smooth peel. Both sides have a pointed tip. The fruit grows about 3-6cm in diameter. The pulp is used for eating and making juice. They are often used to accent the flavors of foods and beverages. The fruit grows on trees.
In the 19th century British sailors were issued a limes and other citrus daily to prevent scurvy. This is what led to the nicknames of "limey" for Britons.
